Building a custom application form

On our Business plan, you can add unlimited custom questions to the application of any of your Dropboards. Use this to collect answers to questions you need to triage the candidate pool. View a video walkthrough here.

Let's imagine we're hiring roles for our sales department and want to collect the following:

  • Years of experience in a sales role
  • Industries where they've had sales experience
  • A brief summary of their sales experience
  • At least one reference

Feature limitation

Business plan or higher required.

First, we go to "Dropboards" in the main menu and either create a new one or edit an existing Dropboard. Then we expand the "Custom Fields" section.

Inside Dropboard editor

We'll click "Add field" and get started building our form:

Let's create our years-of-experience field first:

And we'll continue that process by entering this data for our fields:

Field ids

Field ids are used in CSV exports as well as a way to reference these fields in our integration with other platforms (Zapier and our API).

When we're done, the custom fields area looks like this:

Move fields around as needed by dragging the || next to each field.

We can preview the application by clicking "Apply Now" in the preview frame for your Dropboard:

That will bring up the application panel for you to preview in real-time. As you make changes to the form designer on the right, you'll see the fields change in the application panel. You can even submit this form to test your fields without actually creating a candidate.

When you're all finished, be sure to click the "Save" button in the top right to save the changes to your Dropboard. Wait 5-10 minutes and then your Dropboard's application will be updated with your fields.

When candidates submit, you'll receive answers to all these questions right inside the notification email. You'll also see them in the candidate database:
